Axial AX24 Build

I said a Big Build is Coming, and that was true. However, I intended to convert a stock AX24 into something nuts, but a funny thing happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the AX24 out of the box. After watching numerous YouTube videos and reading multiple posts from people in 1/24 RC car Facebook groups complaining about the AX24 performance I thought it needed serious help. So I bought a bunch of parts not just to help it but to make it AMAZING!

My out-of-the-box experience was different. I found it extremely capable, and the dual steer was a game-changer. Yes, it was top-heavy, but I started with the Axial GX470 and had a bunch of fun driving my son’s Bronco. You want to talk about top-heavy!

The AX24 became a quick favorite.

Then, I realized all the parts I had purchased could become its own rig. Now the AX24 could live another day as an AX24… with a few mods.

Instead of using the EMax servos I slated for the big build, I stuck those in the AX24. Then, I used the stock axles from my GX470 with some extra brass. That included some heavier wheel spacers. I also used the Axial brass servo holders to put more weight down low. Now, this AX24 is a hefty girl on the bottom. It hasn’t fully solved the top-heaviness, but she’s certainly a better performer.

Oh yeah, she also has an Injora 50T motor heart and some Injora metal drive shafts too. The motor came from the GX470 after it went brushless.

Next, I need to find a way to mount a FlySky GT5 receiver next to the stock ESC and install some new gears in the front axle. Brushless would make this thing an insane little beast, but the “Big Build” is holding that title. And instead of two rigs, I now have three. I really like the AX24 where it sits now. All the weight down low and extra width make this a more capable and fun rig to drive.
